Formula 1 Racing on Netflix

All,

10 teams, 20 drivers, all fighting for a chance to win a world championship. This is the world of Formula 1 racing.

Like most American’s I’ve known about Formula 1 racing but wasn’t a fan. I never gave it much thought, it seemed like NASCAR, and it never really interested me.

“Let me know when they turn the other way!” I would joke whenever NASCAR was brought up by friends or family. Which is honestly a fair analysis of the sport. A bunch of dudes get into some fast cars and drive in a loop. Not the most exciting sort in my opinion.

Formula 1 on the other hand has turns and loops and straightaways, and no track is the same, and sometimes they race in the streets! That simple fact alone got me to watch the first episode of “Formula 1: Drive to Survive” on Netflix yesterday. And I am hooked.

This show takes the audience through the different storylines in the 2018 racing season. It has everything you want from a good sports docuseries. There's a hotshot who is racing for a chance at a fresh start on a new team, there's a 20-year-old kid fighting for the spotlight against older rivals, there's even a driver who is pushed to the limits to beat a legend, and much more. You can get lost in the drama between drivers and their teams, but you are always wanting to see what happens next.

The intensity of the drivers is what gets to me. There is a real possibility that they could die, but they strap into the cockpit and drive anyway.

If you haven’t seen the show or are not a fan of Formula 1, I recommend you give this show a chance. You will not help but become a fan of a few of the drivers and at least one of the teams. I personally really liked Haas Racing, an American team. Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean, Haas drivers in 2018, remind me of a couple of cowboys just having fun and racing hard.

Give the show and the sport a try if you haven’t already. You might find a reason to stay through the whole thing.
